What You Need To Know Now About Nighttime Sewer Line Work Starting Oct. 20
Sewer work on Main Street from Town Green to East Main Street includes several other nearby, adjacent streets.
From the Town of Branford:
BRANFORD, CT — The Sewer Department will be rehabilitating the sewer mains in center of town along Main Street including some side streets using a method called “INSITUFORM”. This system will provide a new, joint less sewer pipe for your area that minimizes root and water infiltration problems, improves flow, and provides for a more structural sound pipe without the need for excavation.
There will be a temporary disruption of sewer service to your residence or business for a period of approximately 8 hours to complete this necessary work. Your property’s sewer service connection will be completely sealed off from the town’s main line. It is important that during this time that you limit the use of water going down any drains. Do not use washing machines or dishwashers. If you must shower; leave the water in the tub until your service has been restored.

Any sump pumps illegally connected to the sewer system must be disconnected to avoid possible damage to our liner or prevent backups in your basement. Failure to follow these instructions may cause your discharge to backup into your property.
The work is scheduled October 20 through October 23 and October 27 through October 29. Residents and businesses will receive a notice approximately twenty-four hours prior to the actual installation in your area with the approximate date and time of the interruption.

During certain phases of the operation, you may detect an odor. Odors are most likely to occur in buildings with dry or non-existent traps. In most cases, odors can be minimized by pouring one or two gallons of water down your unused plumbing fixtures (sinks, showers, toilets, etc.) and basement floor drains. In the event you detect odors in your home please notify the crew onsite and open your windows for ventilation.
Please be advised that there is a possibility that some water could come up from your toilets during the installation. Please keep lids closed and covered with a towel as well as some towels around the base of the toilets as a precaution.
There will be nighttime noise and bright lighting associated with this necessary work. Equipment set up may cause some adjustments in parking and neighborhood driving patterns; however, every effort will be made to reduce any inconvenience.
