1 Injured In Bridgeport Stabbing; Suspect Arrested: Police

The stabbing occurred near the intersection of Wood and Benham avenues, according to authorities.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — An arrest has been made in connection with a Friday night stabbing in Bridgeport's Wood Park that left a 37-year-old Bridgeport man suffering a wound to his neck, according to police.

Bridgeport resident Evens Dorvelus, 46, was arrested at about 9 p.m. on Friday, minutes after the incident, with a blood-stained knife in his possession, said Bridgeport Police Det. Jeffrey Holtz in a statement.

The stabbing occurred near the intersection of Wood and Benham avenues, and police found Dorvelus walking on nearby Laurel Avenue when he was apprehended.

"The motive for the stabbing was unclear," Holtz wrote. "Witnesses said the victim may have been attempting to diffuse a dispute between Dorvelus and [a] third man when he was stabbed."

Dorvelus was charged with first-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. He is being held in lieu of bail of $100,000, and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Dec. 5.
