Bassick High School Gets New Principal: Report

This is the school's ninth principal since 2010, and teachers aren't exactly pleased with the decision.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — The district has named Marie Allen as Bassick High School's ninth principal since 2010, reports the Connecticut Post, but some teachers are not happy with the decision. Allen's appointment came after Superintendent Aresta Johnson asked the Board of Education to add the appointment to the consent agenda, which it did without comment.

The appointment was not originally in the plans for the meeting, and the Connecticut Post reports that "a number of teachers" were shocked by the decision. Gary Peluchette, the president of the Bridgeport Education Association, said teachers were upset that the appointment was not on the agenda.

The School's Governance Council recommended Allen for the position. However, Teachers wanted Joseph Raiola, an assistant principal at Harding High School.
