Bridgeport Board Of Education Selects Leadership Team

The selections were made Monday during the board's annual Organizational Meeting.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — The Bridgeport Board of Education elected its new leadership team Monday, during its annual Organizational Meeting at Aquaculture School.

The Board conducted the official election of officers for the 2025 term by paper ballot, and selected the following:

  • Chair: Jennifer Perez was re-elected to a second term as Chair with a unanimous 8–0 vote.
  • Vice Chair: Joseph Sokolovic was re-elected to a second term as Vice Chair with a unanimous 8–0 vote.
  • Secretary: Maritza Estrada Jimenez was elected Secretary by a 6–2 vote.

"I am proud to continue this important work alongside the Board of Education and grateful for the leadership and commitment of our officers," said Interim Superintendent Dr. Royce Avery in a statement. "I also warmly welcome our newly elected Board members as we move forward together in service of our students, families, and the entire Bridgeport community. Our shared mission remains clear, and I look forward to the continued collaboration ahead."

Officials said that the board "looks ahead to the year with a continued focus on governance, collaboration, and shared responsibility in support of Bridgeport Public Schools."
