Bridgeport Public Schools Faces Financial Cliff In Proposed Budget

The district, already facing a budget hole, reportedly needs millions more from the city and the state just to stay afloat.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Already mired in a fiscal morass, Bridgeport Public Schools is looking for $348 million to operate the district in 2025-26, 24 percent above the current year's allocation, the Connecticut Post reported.

District officials say that without a serious infusion of cash from the city and state, the school system is facing an additional $23 million in budget cuts.

Dozens of positions have already been eliminated to help address the shortfall, and without more funding, the district is looking at the prospect of more cuts.
