Bridgeport's Ganim Denied Public Campaign Funds: Report
BREAKING: The city's mayor and convicted felon had been exploring a run at statewide office.

HARTFORD, CT — If Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim hopes to run for governor, he will have to do so without public campaign funds, according to a report from the Connecticut Post. The State's Elections Enforcement Commission voted Wednesday to formally deny Ganim public funding.
Ganim, sentenced for numerous corruption charges in 2003, formally asked the commission if he could receive public money for a run at statewide office. Members of the commission voted unanimously to affirm the draft ruling that the mayor would not be eligible.
Ganim re-won the mayorial seat for the state's largest city in 2015 after a lengthy prison sentence. Ganim formally asked the State Elections Enforcement Commission earlier in May to clear him for the campaign financing program.
