CT Education Department Hires Firm To Support Bridgeport Public Schools’ Financial and HR Systems
The national consulting firm specializes in financial management, human resources, and organizational improvement.
BRIDGEPORT, CT — The Connecticut State Department of Education has hired Public Works, a national consulting firm specializing in financial management, human resources, and organizational improvement, to help Bridgeport Public Schools strengthen its internal operations.
Public Works will work with the department’s Technical Assistance Team and district leaders to address 34 recommendations from a financial audit conducted by CliftonLarsonAllen. The firm will also provide training and support aimed at improving Bridgeport’s financial and human resources practices. The assistance is being provided at no cost to the district.
“This engagement is a critical step forward in ensuring that our internal systems are efficient, transparent, and aligned with best practices,” Interim Superintendent Royce Avery said in a statement. “We are grateful to the Connecticut State Department of Education for its support and to Public Works for bringing their expertise to Bridgeport.”

Public Works has conducted organizational and fiscal reviews for school districts across the country, including recent work with Hartford Public Schools. The firm is known for its collaborative approach and focus on sustainable improvements in district operations, according to the state education department.
Under the agreement, Public Works will help Bridgeport Public Schools strengthen financial and human resources systems, develop performance benchmarks, support data-driven decision-making, and improve budget planning and resource allocation.

Representatives from Public Works outlined their plans to the Bridgeport Board of Education on Oct. 27. The partnership is intended to help the district make long-term, strategic decisions benefiting students, staff, and the wider community.
