Fatal Crash Investigated In Bridgeport: Police
The one-vehicle crash occurred Saturday afternoon, according to authorities.
BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 71-year-old Bridgeport man was killed Saturday afternoon when the vehicle he was driving crashed into a pole at the intersection of Broad and Elm streets in Bridgeport, according to police.
Robert Knuckles succumbed to his injuries about half an hour following the 12:45 p.m. crash, police said. Witnesses contacted police immediately after the crash.
"The callers reported a black vehicle collided with a pole, and all the airbags deployed with an unresponsive male in the vehicle," wrote Bridgeport Police Sgt. Darryl Wilson in a statement.

Knuckles was transported to St. Vincent's Medical Center by American Medical Response, where he was later pronounced dead.
"He was traveling northbound on Broad Street when he struck a concrete post on the sidewalk at the intersection of Broad Street and Elm Street," Wilson said, based on preliminary findings.

Members of the Bridgeport Police Serious Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the crash.
"The Bridgeport Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Robert Knuckles," Wilson said.
