Firefighters Douse Blaze At Decommissioned Bridgeport Power Plant

The fire was reported Thursday morning, according to authorities.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Bridgeport firefighters extinguished a fire Thursday morning at the decommissioned power plant at Russell and Atlantic streets on Bridgeport's South Side, according to authorities.

All the plant personnel were accounted for, and no injuries were reported in the 10:30 a.m. blaze. Firefighters doused the flames within about 45 minutes.

The former PSEG coal plant is in the midst of being dismantled, and the property will become a new housing and harbor complex by Bridgeport Station Development.

Plumes of black smoke from the fire were visible throughout parts of Bridgeport on Thursday, the Connecticut Post reported.

The Bridgeport Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
