Homicide Investigation In Bridgeport After Injured Woman Dies: Police
The woman was discovered Tuesday night, according to authorities.
BRIDGEPORT, CT — Bridgeport police have launched a homicide investigation, after a 24-year-old Bridgeport woman, who was found on a "street injured and unresponsive," later died in St. Vincent's Medical Center.
Evelyn Rayo-Mairena was found on Black Rock Avenue at about 9:30 p.m., and was taken to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
"Officers were initially dispatched to Black Rock Ave. on a report of an abandoned child on the front porch of a house," wrote Bridgeport Police Det. Jeffrey Holtz in a statement. "They located the child and then found the mother injured on the street a short distance away."

The child was transported to Bridgeport Hospital for evaluation; the department is not disclosing details of Rayo-Mairena's injuries at this time, according to Holtz.
"Homicide detectives have been working the case throughout the night and are following several leads," Holtz said. "The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was scheduled to conduct an autopsy on the victim Wednesday morning."
