Rally Scheduled This Weekend In Bridgeport Against UI Monopole Project

The United Illuminating proposal calls for the installation of tall monopoles that would carry power lines through Bridgeport and Fairfield.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A rally is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday at Shiloh Baptist Church, 477 Broad St. in Bridgeport, to protest the proposed United Illuminating monopole project.

Shiloh Baptist Church is one of the properties in Bridgeport and Fairfield that could be adversely impacted by the project.

"UI is proposing to take 1/3 of the property, including the church structure itself," said Steve Ozyck, a co-founder of the grassroots group Empowering Fairfield, which opposes the plan. "We need UI to come to the table with solutions we can all live with."
