Dr. Carreras is an exceptional interventional cardiologist whose technical excellence is matched by rare humility. Since joining St. Vincent’s in 2019, he has become central to our heart team and TAVR program. To colleagues he’s simply “Eddie”: a peer and teacher who strengthens teams without ego. To patients and families, he is more than a physician. One TAVR patient shared that Eddie felt like a grandson who guided him through a perilous procedure and, later, through grief. Another family praised the time he took to explain a complex valve replacement for their 92-year-old loved one, making lifesaving care possible with confidence. Nurses and physicians alike describe him as a friend, mentor, and quiet force for quality at the bedside and in the cath lab.

Since 1980, the FCMA Magida Award has been presented to a young physician nominated by one of the county's six hospitals. The core tenets of the Magida Award are exceptional clinical acumen, exemplary patient care and person-centered relationships, education of physicians, patients, and residents; a commitment to the fundamentals of healing; and dedication to achieving the best possible outcomes for every patient.
