Standoff With Bridgeport Police Ends With Arrest Of Armed Suspect
Bridgeport police evacuated the neighborhood and used "non-lethal measures" to apprehend the suspect after the hours-long standoff.
BRIDGEPORT, CT — An armed Bridgeport man was taken into custody by police Thursday, following an hours-long standoff in the 100 block of Rennel Street in Bridgeport, according to authorities.
No injuries were reported, but the suspect, Eric Renteria, was taken to a local hospital for evaluation after the incident. Charges are pending.
The incident began at about 4 a.m., when Bridgeport police received a noise complaint from Rennel Street.

"While on scene, Bridgeport Police observed an individual in possession of a firearm and proceeded to contact Emergency Services Unit (ESU) personnel," Shawnna White, the city's Press Secretary, wrote in a statement. "Officers saw the individual acting erratically with a firearm, residents were evacuated, and a perimeter was established."
After a few hours, Renteria exited the home, but refused to comply with police commands. At that point, "non-lethal measures" were used by Bridgeport police officers to subdue Renteria; what types of measures were used were not disclosed.

The investigation remains ongoing.
"The swift actions of patrol officers in evacuating residents and securing the perimeter were instrumental in preventing further escalation and maintaining public safety," White said.
