Why do you believe the teacher should be recognized or honored?

Gail has been a dedicated teacher in the heart of Bridgeport for many years. She is a phenomenal teacher who works with each of her students to celebrate their academic and personal strengths while using targeted and individualized strategies to develop their confidence while working on their weaknesses. Teaching kindergarten in an inner-city urban center comes with its own unique issues -- some of her students have never been in a classroom of any type; some don't speak any English; some come from fractured homes without adult supervision; some live with food insecurity, and some are survivors of abusive family conditions. Each fall, I hear stories about the new class, and I feel for her because I know what an uphill battle is ahead to get these kids ready for first grade. The amazing thing about Gail is that she doesn't complain about starting over each year. Instead, she accepts each teaching roadblock as a challenge. She will find a special way to reach every kid at their own level and move them forward. She can be silly and goofy and play on the floor with the kids, but she is also firm and serious when addressing a problem. She is not afraid to deal with disgruntled parents or caretakers and is the first to recommend special services where there is a need. By the end of the year, she is beaming with pride when she talks about the successes of her students. What's one thing you want everyone to know about the teacher?

Gail is a beautiful person whose natural abilities as an educator and mentor make her an ideal candidate for recognition. When she sees a student she taught 15 years ago, she often gets a big hug, a huge smile, and a genuine thank you for all she did for them.
