Annual Brookfield Town Meeting: 2017 Voter's Guide

Residents will gather at the high school Tuesday night for the Annual Town Meeting, bringing Brookfield one step closer to a new budget.

BROOKFIELD, CT — With an uncertain fiscal future hanging over the town's head, residents will take to Brookfield High School's auditorium for the Annual Town Meeting Tuesday evening. Here's a quick rundown of what you need to know.

What's going on?

If you've never been to a town meeting before, residents will be voting whether to send the Board of Finance's proposed budget to a town-wide referendum, and to set a date and time for a vote on the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

The Board of Finance's proposal consists of a $40.8 million spending plan for the Board of Education and $18.6 million for town operations. The Board of Selectmen have also recommended making May 16 the day for the townwide budget referendum.

When and where?

The annual town meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 2, in the Brookfield High School Auditorium beginning at 7:00 p.m. If approved, the town wide referendum would take place May 16 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
