Black Bull Steakhouse Set To Fire Up the Grill This September In Brookfield

Owner says town's first dedicated steakhouse aims to fill a longtime local craving with sizzling cuts, Spanish flair, and community spirit.

BROOKFIELD, CT — A new steakhouse is coming to Federal Road this September, and its owner says it’s not just a restaurant—it’s the answer to a question many locals have been asking for years: “Why doesn’t Brookfield have a steakhouse?”

Enter Black Bull Steakhouse, the brainchild of Mayker Lemus, who previously co-owned Brisas Latin Cuisine Restaurant with his sister at the same location, 779 Federal Road. Lemus has since bought out his sister’s share and partnered with a seasoned restaurateur—boasting over 30 years in the business—to bring the town its only standalone steakhouse.

The decision to pivot away from Latin cuisine wasn’t a sign of failure, Lemus told Patch. “Brisas was fine,” he explained. “But we’ve always wanted to do a steakhouse, and I’ve been asking people around—everyone says the same thing: Brookfield needs one.”

Lemus moved to Brookfield in June 2024 and said he immediately recognized the demand. “It’s surprising—there’s no steakhouse here,” he said. “People have been waiting.”

That wait could be over as soon as September, pending a liquor license transfer and final renovations. While no firm opening date has been set, Lemus said that the momentum is there—and so is the excitement.

What to Expect at Black Bull

While Black Bull will serve up a range of steaks—from high-end cuts to more affordable options—it won’t be your traditional steakhouse. Lemus and his partner plan to infuse the menu with Spanish flavors and offer a variety of experiences beyond just dinner.

“There’s going to be a lunch menu, a great happy hour, and we’re thinking of doing live music once a month,” he said. Specials and community events are also part of the plan, making Black Bull more than just a place to eat—it’s a spot to gather.

Expect steaks with a twist, live music, and perhaps even a flower or two on the plate. “We’re Spanish, so there’s always going to be that little Spanish taste,” Lemus said.

Community First, Steak Second

More than just a business venture, Black Bull is Lemus’s way of becoming part of the community. “We’re trying to be involved with the town,” he said. “We want to make sure everybody knows what’s going on.”

To spread the word, Lemus is working with Brookfield's Economic Development Department and plans to launch a robust marketing campaign that includes social media, local radio, and even regional magazines.

The Final Countdown

With September fast approaching, the Black Bull team is charging ahead. “The only thing we’re waiting on is the liquor license,” Lemus said. “Once that’s in place, we’re ready to go.”

Whether you’re a steak purist, a fan of fusion flavors, or just looking for a new local hangout, Black Bull Steakhouse may be just what Brookfield’s been missing.
