Brookfield Firefighters Rescue Deer Stranded On Frozen Lake
The deer had begun to make its way back to shore as the first responders came on the scene, but was unable to navigate the steep embankment
BROOKFIELD, CT — Firefighters rescued a deer that had ventured a bit too far out onto the ice of Lake Lillinonah in Brookfield this weekend.
Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company officials reported that both the town's companies were dispatched to the area of Windwood Road around 9:15 a.m. Saturday, to assist Connecticut State Environmental Conservation Police with aiding the animal, stranded about 40 yards out on the ice.
The deer had begun to make its way back to shore as the first responders came on the scene, but was unable to navigate the steep embankment, according to a BVFC report on social media.

Crew members reached and then assisted the uninjured deer up the embankment where it ran off "seemingly healthy," according to the report.
"We remind everyone that ice is never 100% safe due varying water levels and changing currents that can make ice thinner and inconsistent in many spots," fire officials said.
