The sprinkler system contained the blaze to a small section of the warehouse while firefighters worked to extinguish the boat motors and lithium-ion batteries involved in the fire, according to Stony Hill fire officials.

Crews operated on scene for several hours, searching for and extinguishing pockets of fire, and ventilating the large warehouses adjacent to the fire building.

Due to the hazard that lithium-ion batteries pose when subjected to fire and heat, the Danbury Fire Department's HazMat team and a crew from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection were called to the scene for an assessment. It was determined that the batteries would be disposed of by an outside environmental company contractor, according to the Bethel Emergency Management & Fire Marshal Office, which is investigating the fire.
