Brookfield Inmate Sent Threatening Letters To Court Worker: Feds

Devin James Melychar was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly sending several threatening letters to a court worker.

BROOKFIELD, CT — A Brookfield man currently serving time for child sexual abuse, and threatening to kill the federal judge, prosecutor, his own lawyer and investigator on the case, is once again in hot water.

Devin James Melychar, 31, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston on Thursday for allegedly sending several threatening letters to an employee at the John Joseph Moakley United States Courthouse, while he was incarcerated in the Federal Correction Institution in Danbury.

Melycher was indicted on three counts of mailing threatening communications. He will appear in federal court in Boston at a later date, according to a news release from The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Massachusetts.

According to the charging documents, Melycher allegedly on three separate occasions sent letters addressed to a U.S. official at the John Joseph Moakley U.S. Courthouse in Boston threatening to injure the employee.

The charges of mailing threatening communications each provide for a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.

The U.S. Attorney's Office emphasized that Melycher is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
