Brookfield Resident Joseph Caravetta Passed Away

He worked at Barden and Heli-Coil in Danbury, was a talented musician and loved playing the accordion and organ.

Brookfield, CT — Joseph W. Caravetta, Jr., 83, of Brookfield, beloved husband of Jean M. (Cappellano) Caravetta, died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones at Bethel Healthcare on Monday, June 13th. He was born in Greenwich on June 5, 1933, son of the late Joseph W., Sr. and Emilia (Petrone) Caravetta.

Joseph worked for many years as a machinist for Barden and previously with Heli-Coil, both in Danbury. He was a talented musician who loved playing the accordion and organ. He shared this talent as a music teacher at Carvette School of Music.

He was an avid vegetable gardener and enjoyed tending to his lawn. His hobbies included hunting, playing the lottery, and going to Fox Woods and Mohegan.

Most importantly, he was happiest spending time with his family and true love, “His Mrs.” Near and dear to his heart were his three children and their spouses who he loved with all his heart. He loved his six wonderful grandchildren so much and was so very proud of them all.

In addition to his cherished wife of 55 years, Jean, he will be sadly missed by his children, Joseph W. Caravetta III and his wife, Lisa, Thomas M. Caravetta and his wife, Mary, and Camille Shafto and her husband, Keith; his grandchildren, Gavin, Gabrielle, Thomas, Jr., and Kristina Caravetta, and Alec and Andrew Shafto; his brother, John H. Carvette; sisters-in-law, Hollis Caravetta, and Carol Daudelin and her husband, John; his uncle, Harold Petrone; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by devoted friends, Loretta, Vinnie, Bobbie, Al, Anne B., Marie N., Kristina, Elsie and Frank.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 18th at 9:30am at St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Road, Danbury.

The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Friday, June 17th between the hours of 5:00 and 7:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
