BROOKFIELD, CT — Demolition at the site of a former dry cleaners in Brookfield is complete, setting the stage for the final phases of the clean-up.

The plan is to convert the 2.31-acre vacant property at 20 Station Road into 60 apartments with 20 percent designated as affordable. But first the town must clean up the dry cleaning chemicals.

"The next step is remediation of the groundwater and soil," Economic DevelopmentSpecialist Greg Dembowski told Patch. "We just opened bids and will be making our recommendation to the [Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development] of the lowest qualified bidder."
