BROOKFIELD, CT — A family violence incident ended in a chase through the woods this past weekend.

The Brookfield Police Department received a report of the incident at around 3:45 p.m. on Saturday. First responders at the Arapaho Road residence found that the victim had barricaded themselves in a bathroom for their own safety, according to police.

After safely removing the victim from the residence, police determined that the suspect fled on foot prior to their arrival. The officers also learned the suspect may be armed with a knife.

Brookfield police officers, assisted by K-9 Officer Tango, began tracking the suspect in the heavily wooded area behind the residence, according to their report.

Tango located his quarry "within minutes," but the suspect continued to run into the woods toward another home. When the officers offered the runner a choice between stopping or being apprehended by Tango, the suspect chose the first option and was taken into custody without further incident.

Police charged the suspect with unlawful restraint, interfering with an officer, third-degree assault, and violation of a protective order.

The suspect was held on $50,000 bond and scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on July 29.
