Ex-Brookfield School Finance Director Accused of Stealing $120K Due in Court Next Week

Former Brookfield school official Art Colley is due in Danbury Superior Court on Wednesday to answer to charges of larceny. BREAKING

BROOKFIELD, CT — Former Brookfield School Finance Director Arthur Colley is due in court on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 for the continued case of larceny of over $120,000 of Brookfield School funds on personal items, according to court documents.

An audit showed approximately $124,000 in questionable spending by Colley and his former assistant Elizabeth Kerekes, who also faces numerous charges. Colley has pleaded not guilty to the charges and Kerekes is seeking special probation.

Colley has been charged with three counts of first-degree larceny, and one count each of second-degree larceny, second- and third-degree forgery. He is also charged with defrauding a public community and conspiracy to commit larceny, according to Connecticut Judicial Court records.

Elizabeth Kerekes was the assistant of Art Colley in the schools’ finance department and was arrested in relation to misappropriation of school funds for personal use. Patch reported last September that Kerekes and Colley were arrested for allegedly using school funds for personal use. A forensic audit analyzed more than 600 transactions involving Colley , Kerekes and other present and former school employees.
