BROOKFIELD, CT — The Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company is warning residents about improper disposal of fireworks after responding to two overnight garbage fires.

Officials posted a photo of one of the (real-life, actual) dumpster fires on social media.

"When disposing of hot ashes, coals or used fireworks (sparklers and fountains included), make sure they are soaked for 24 hours, left in a safe area away from the residence and in a metal container until cool before placing in your inside or outside trash containers,"
