UPDATE: Suspicious Package Deemed Non-Hazardous By Brookfield Police
Hazmat teams responded to a suspicious package at Brookfield Police HQ.
BROOKFIELD, CT — A suspicious package brought to the Brookfield Police Department on Friday was determined to be non-hazardous, authorities confirmed following an investigation by local and state emergency response teams.
The incident began around 2:15 p.m. on May 23 when someone brought a package containing an unknown substance to the police station out of concern. As a precaution, Brookfield police and fire crews were joined by the Danbury Fire Department, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and the Connecticut State Police.
Officials said the substance was tested by DEEP and state police personnel and found to be non-dangerous. No criminal activity or malicious intent was associated with the incident.

Police reminded the public not to handle or transport suspicious packages. “Leave them in place and call 911,” the department said in a statement. “Do not bring them into the police department.”
