Tree And Downed Wires Close Route 133 In Brookfield, Firefighters Use 500 Gallons Of Water
Route 133 in Brookfield closed after tree and wires sparked a fire. Firefighters used 500 gallons of water to secure the scene.
BROOKFIELD, CT — A tree that came down on Brookdale Lane brought live wires with it Saturday night, forcing a temporary closure of Route 133 and prompting a large response from local firefighters.
The Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company said crews were dispatched at about 8:38 p.m. after the fallen tree caused wires to ignite and set fire to a patch of lawn. Firefighters used roughly 500 gallons of water to cool the area until utility workers could cut power to the lines.
Because the downed wires crossed Route 133, the road was shut down for safety until Eversource crews secured the scene. No injuries were reported.

Officials said the fire highlights the danger posed by fallen wires, reminding residents that any downed line should be treated as live and avoided. “Stay clear of the area and wait for emergency crews,” the department said in a statement.
The incident was cleared after the tree and wires were removed, and Route 133 was reopened later in the night.
