2 People Wounded In Brookfield Shooting At Farm: Police

Two people were wounded during a shooting at Brookfield's Happy Landings park, according to police.

BROOKFIELD, CT — Police have apprehended two suspects in connection with a disturbance and shooting in Brookfield Wednesday evening.

Brookfield police officers responded to a report of an incident in the parking lot of 55 Whisconier Road, at Happy Landings Farm, around 7:13 p.m.

During the course of the on-scene investigation, Danbury Hospital staff notified police they had admitted two patients with non-threatening gunshot wounds related to their investigation.

Police charged Gerald Rutledge, 65, of Southbury, with first-and second-degree assault with a firearm, and Rithy Kay, 45, of Danbury with third-degree assault. Both have been scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court the next day.

In a social media post, the Brookfield PD thanked Western District Major Crime detectives from the Connecticut State Police, and Danbury and Newtown Police Departments for their assistance in the investigation.

"This was an isolated incident and there is currently no danger to the public," police officials said.
