It’s the return of a family tradition and Josh Bristol expects to sell corn at the Bristol’s Farm Market through Labor Day.
Bristol’s grandfather, the late David A. Bristol Sr. was famous for his local corn.
This year, Josh with help from his father Dan and cousin John Forker, are once again growing corn on the farm property along Route 44 in Canton.
“It’s looking really good,” Josh Bristol said.
In all, the family planted about an acre and a quarter, he said. Varieties include butter and sugar and Silver king, a white corn similar to the more popular silver queen.
Already some 150 dozen ears have been picked and Josh Bristol expects it will last through Labor Day, possibly with some freezing corn available later in the season.
The Bristol’s Farm Market also sells numerous products such as berries, carrots, lettuce, Swiss chard, tomatoes, peppers and more. Some is grown on site by Bristol’s or one of two tenant farmers leasing land from the family this year.
Nearly everything is organic and/or grown in Connecticut.
The farm store is at 541 Albany Turnpike (Route 44) and is open Tuesday through Friday from 1 to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
