Among those seeking political office on the Democratic ticket in Canton this fall are two political newcomers.
Ana Cavanaugh and Jack Powell, who are running for the Board of Education, were both endorsed during a Democratic Town Committee Caucus held Monday night.
Cavanaugh has three kids in Canton schools and has been involved in various school activities, including as vice president of the Canton Intermediate School Parent Teacher Organization board.

“I’m excited about doing this and thanks for the opportunity,” he said.
While she has been involved in the Democratic Party, Mary Dean is also running for the first time this year and seeking a seat on the Board of Finance.
Dean, a paraprofessional at Canton Intermediate School, has also been involved in the League of Women Voters and is treasurer for the Canton Food Bank and Democratic Town committee.
“I’ve been wanting to run for a couple years,” she said. “This is the right year.”
The second candidate endorsed for the finance board is Richard Eickenhorst, who has served on that board for approximately 12 years. He said the town’s debt service and numerous needs will make town budgets a challenge over the next several years.
"We’re going to have some challenges moving forward,” he said.
Rounding out the Democratic slate are the following candidates.
Board of Assessment Appeals
- Nick Ouellette
Constables
- Greg Sims
- George Thimot
- Carrie Sinish
