Canton FD Reflects On Recent Battle To Save Home Amid Storm

The Canton Fire & EMS Department Wednesday recounted a difficult fire battle Sunday that turned out well for all involved.

CANTON, CT — Operating in some of the worst weather of the year, the Canton Fire and EMS Department said Wednesday it was able to save a home, despite heavy fire upon arrival.

According to the department, the blaze happened Sunday night at a structure fire on Andrew Drive.

" Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire conditions coming from an attached garage, rapidly spreading into the home," wrote local fire officials Wednesday.

With the area already inundated with snow, ice, and freezing rain, firefighters were undeterred.

"Despite the challenging icy weather and the lack of fire hydrants in the North Canton area, our dedicated crews pushed through to perform an aggressive fire attack, ultimately saving the home," wrote the department.

Firefighters, meanwhile, expressed gratitude to the other responders, as well as the town's public works crews, for their help during the blaze.

"We would also like to extend a huge thank you to the Canton Police Department, Canton DPW, and our mutual aid fire departments for their invaluable assistance in this critical operation," wrote the department.

Images posted on the department's Facebook page showed a gutted garage, but the home was left standing and was saved.
