Canton FD Warns Of Deceptive Fundraising Campaign

Canton firefighters are warning folks a recently circulated letter purporting to support 'Connecticut' firefighters is not from them.

CANTON, CT — Local fire officials are warning residents about a letter circulating in the area seeking donations that could be misconstrued as donations for the local fire department.

According to the Town of Canton Fire & EMS Department, the letter comes from a Houston, Texas,-based organization called the "Volunteer Firefighter Alliance."

It purports to be conducting a fund-raising drive for volunteer firefighters as well as a recruitment campaign for "Connecticut" fire departments.

The only problem, according to Canton's fire department, is this effort has nothing to do with them.

"If you receive a letter similar to the one pictured above, it did not come from us," wrote local firefighters recently.

"Please be advised that only donations made specifically to the Town of Canton Fire and EMS Department benefit the department directly. The department does not associate with any outside organizations."

The concern is people donating to this "cause" thinking they're supporting local firefighters when they're not.
