Canton Fire & EMS Unveils New Firefighting Vehicle

Mobile and effective, the new vehicle may not be large, but it is equally necessary, especially in a town as rural as Canton.

The Town of Canton Fire & EMS Department recently unveiled a new UTV, an off-road vehicle that will be able to take firefighters/rescuers into tight, wooded terrain otherwise inaccessible to traditional firefighting vehicles.

CANTON, CT — Local firefighters recently welcomed a new rescue vehicle to its fleet, but its not a truck or ambulance.

Rather, the Town of Canton Fire & EMS recently introduced UTV-6, its newest unit that looks more like a golf cart than a firefighting vehicle.

But don't let its looks fool you. This machine is much-needed and effective.

The vehicle was "generously donated" by the Canton Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting emergency services in the community.

Its purpose is to bring firefighters/rescuers into places larger vehicles cannot.

"This off-road utility vehicle will help us access hard-to-reach areas during emergencies, increasing our ability to serve and protect. We’re incredibly grateful for this donation and support," wrote the Town of Canton Fire & EMS.

The announcement of the new vehicle was Aug. 15 and, within days, it was already utilized, fire officials said.

After being on display at the Touch-a-Truck sponsored by the CVFC No. 1, it was also utilized during a rescue operation on the Farmington River — "further demonstrating the critical role this equipment plays in emergency response."
