Canton Firefighters Battle Weekend Brush Blaze
Early spring is traditionally the brush fire season and, despite Monday's soggy weather, it can dry out quickly.
CANTON, CT — Monday's wet weather notwithstanding, it's been a dry couple of days and Canton fire officials are warning folks to refrain from open burning until conditions improve.
Early spring is traditionally brush fire season as all of the vegetation and sticks dry out after a winter of snow and moisture.
That drying out can happen quickly, with the Canton Fire & EMS Department learning firsthand about that.

The department on Saturday, March 22, said it battled a large 50-foot-by-100-foot brush fire on North Mountain Road that same day.
While no major damage was incurred other than charred land, it did require the attention of local volunteer firefighters.

"As a reminder, the fire danger warning for all of Connecticut currently is HIGH. Open burning is not permitted," wrote Canton fire officials Saturday.
