Canton OK's Emergency Fix At Lone Public Swimming Pool
The Canton Board of Selectmen approved the expenditure to keep the pool open for 2025.
CANTON, CT — As temperatures are heating up for the upcoming summer season, the Town of Canton is heating up efforts to fix its only public pool.
Last week, the Canton Board of Selectmen voted unanimously in favor of a $25,000 expenditure to hire Blue Lagoon Pools out of Plainville to conduct an emergency fix at Mills Pond Park's pool.
Mills Pond Park, located at 14 East Hill Road, Canton, features tennis/pickleball courts, basketball courts, softball, baseball, and soccer fields, as well as an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

Canton First Selectman Kevin Witkos presented colleagues with the situation last week, saying there was an immediate need for the repairs.
As a result of problems at the pool, the town announced its opening would be delayed, with June 21 the opening date for the pool instead of the planned June 16 date.

Witkos said longer-range plans for the pool call for major repairs in next year's capital improvements budget.
He said the work this year is only to keep the pool open for 2025, with next year's work expected to require the town to bond money for more permanent repairs.
Selectmen agreed with Witkos that the pools should be opened for this year and not closed.
