Canton PD Warns Of Text Message Scam

The scam has been making rounds in the Canton area, according to police.

CANTON, CT — Local police this week are warning residents about a text messaging scam operation targeting folks' bank accounts.

The Canton Police Department on Tuesday said they were notified of a scam that is circulating in the are.

It comes in the form of a text message telling the victim they owe money for unpaid traffic violations, etc.

Then, targets are directed to a website that can get their personal information and access to their financial accounts.

"If you receive a message that looks suspicious or contains a strange link, DO NOT click on it and DO NOT respond to the text," wrote the Canton PD.

"The link leads to a fraudulent website that can steal your personal and financial information."

Police said if anyone has already lost money or suspect they're being scammed, they should call their local police department.
