Canton Residents Can Get 0% Interest Loans For Home Improvements

CANTON, CT — Canton residents who have been meaning to tackle a home renovation may be eligible to apply for a loan at a 0 percent interest rate.

The town is accepting applications for its Small Cities Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program, which aims to improve the town's housing stock through renovation and rehabilitation projects.

Residents can receive financial assistance for roof repair/replacement, plumbing, public water hook-up, electrical work, heating system replacement, siding and window replacement, and similar projects.

But projectst like family room additions and decks are not eligible for the program, officials said.

Eligibility is based on household size and income, at these levels:

• 1 person $55,950
• 2 people $63,950
• 3 people $71,950
• 4 people $79,900

Non-owner-occupied properties are eligible, too, if their tenants meet the income limits.

"Rental units must be maintained as affordable for at least five years after rehabilitation if they participate in the program," officials said in a document announcing the program.
