Canton's Memorial Day Tradition Promises Poignancy, Honor

CANTON, CT — The town's annual tradition of remembering those who paid the supreme sacrifice continues this year with the annual Memorial Day Parade.

The 2024 Canton Memorial Day Parade is scheduled for Monday, May 27, at 10 a.m.

Visitors will be able to join Jim Erisoty, this year's Memorial Day Parade grand marshal, as the community will gather to honor those who sacrificed their lives for freedom.

Civic or youth groups that wish to march are welcome.

All groups should plan to gather at the Canton Intermediate School, 39 Dyer Ave., at 9:30 a.m.

The parade begins at 10 a.m. heading south on Dyer Avenue, taking a right onto Maple Avenue, then taking a left onto Main Street.

From there, the parade will take a right onto Center Street and proceed to the Village Cemetery where a memorial service will be held.

Closings

In addition, local officials have announced the Memorial Day holiday impacts on town/school operations.

All town departments will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day.

Local schools will also be closed on Monday, May 27, with schools reopening as normal on Tuesday, May 28.
