Meanwhile, volunteers with the Avon-Canton Rotary Club have already rolled up their sleeves and gave the walls near the senior room a fresh coat of paint.
“We wanted to make the place feel more like a living room – comfortable and welcoming for relaxed gatherings, conversation, classes, clubs, and more,” said Kara McConville, senior center coordinator, in a statement.
“We’re adding new furnishings like plush wingback chairs, updated computer stations, new tables and chairs, wall art, and other touches to really make it a special place for our seniors. They deserve it.”
While the renovations are going on, senior programs are also going on.
Those include such staples as the "Canton Senior Café," coffee bar, parties and events as well as a litany of activities, classes, games and trips.
When the work is complete, a "grand reopening" will take place to celebrate the senior center enhancements.
