Canton's Urn Mystery Solved: Police
The urn was found on a fence post at a well-used Canton hiking trail last week, prompting police to investigate.

CANTON, CT — The case of the mysterious urn left on a Canton hiking trail last week has been solved, according to the Canton Police Department.
Police on Thursday, Sept. 4, said they had found the urn that had remains inside sitting on a fence post at a hiking trail behind the Canton Department of Public Works headquarters.
At the time, police were asking for the public's help in identifying who left the urn there.

Saturday, the CPD said the mystery had been solved, though it was releasing few details beyond that.
"The Canton Police Department has identified the urn that was recently discovered on the trail behind the Department of Public Works," wrote police on Saturday, Sept. 6.

"We are now working directly with the family of the deceased to ensure the urn is properly returned."
According to police, the department's call for the community's help appears to have been answered, as they thanked those who helped them solve the case.
"We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who assisted us by sharing information and helping bring this investigation to a respectful resolution," wrote the CPD, which stated no further details would be released.
