As Emergency Calls Increase, Canton Seeks More Firefighters
The Town of Canton Fire & EMS Department has seen its calls increase year over year as it seeks more volunteers to help out.

CANTON, CT — As emergency calls are increasing, the Canton Fire & EMS Department is looking for more members to join its ranks and help out.
Last week, the department reported that emergency calls in 2025 are up 3 percent compared to where they were a year ago at this time, with 951 calls for service.
As for last month, the CFD reported 166 calls, including 36 fire-related incidents and 130 emergency medical services calls.

"This also doesn’t include the countless hours of training, drills, and service provided by our dedicated volunteer members in the firehouse," wrote the department. "We’re proud to serve the residents of the Town of Canton with professionalism, commitment, and care. Thank you for your continued support."
On particular training drill took place Monday, July 7, when members practiced water rescue training on the Farmington River.

"Members focused on critical skills including boat operations, victim removal, and shore-based support," wrote the department.
The department said it is always looking for more volunteers, and they're invited to stop by one of its firehouses to check it out.
Specifically, folks are invited to visit the Canton Fire & EMS Department Station 1, the new facility at 51 River Road, Canton, on any Monday at 7 p.m. to learn more about becoming a member.
