A Canton woman died Thursday morning, a day after she was involved in a collision near Winchester, UK, according to a release from the Hampshire Constabulary Police Headquarters in Winchester, Hampshire, UK.

At approximately 1 p.m. on May 15, Caitlin Homan, 24, was walking a dog near Lainston House Hotel when she were involved in a collision with a blue Vauxhall Corsa, according to the release.

According to this article in the Hampshire Chronicle, she was researching animal psychology at the University of Portsmouth.

Her university profile page stated she studied psychology and ecology at the University of Maine, worked for a Lemur Conservation Foundation in Florida and was researching whether "dogs are able to detect deception in humans."

Ashley Frieson graduated with Homan as part of the Canton High School Class of 2006.

"This is more than tragic and my heart breaks for her family," Frieson said. "Her parents are such kind, generous people and to lose their daughter like this, compounded by the fact that it happened while she was abroad, is a nightmare."
