Canton Intermediate School 5th graders participated in the school's 17th annual Civil War encampment Thursday morning.
The event is part of an integrated unit on the Civil War as well as its aftermath, fifth-grade teacher Kathy Magarian said.
The event featured several stations at which re-enactors taught kids about several aspects of the war. Always a favorite is now retired CIS teacher Tim Barth, who plays the role of confederate soldier Major Frye.
At the end, the grey and blue re-enacted a battle scene.
The event has a big impression on the kids, who even talk about it at graduation, teachers said.
"This is what they remember about fifth grade," Magarian said.
