Sarah Barrios Getting Noticed For Songwriting, Performing Skills

Singer-songwriter Sarah Barrios has spent her life surrounded by music.

Her dad Eduardo, a Canton business owner, played guitar and music was a family affair.

"Everyone would sit around and sing with each other," she said.

Along the way Sarah learned to play herself and while in 7th grade she watched a biography on Taylor Swift and was inspired to take it a step further and began writing original music.

It's paid off. While the 19-year-old is studying liberal arts and photography at Northwestern Connecticut Community College, she is also gaining ground musically and has several upcoming shows.

Recently she won an open mic competition at Infinity Hall in Norfolk and will have the chance to open for a national act at the venue. She was one of 12 finalists and ended up winning.

"I was really excited and extremely nervous," she said. "I was definitely surprised and completely honored I won the competition."

Barrios has not yet heard who she will share the stage with but has garnered several other area gigs.

On July 7 and Aug 25, she performs at the Collinsville Farmers Market.

On Oct. 18, she opens for Nashville Recording Artist Nora Jane Struthers and The Party Line at Bridge Street Live in Collinsville.
