Second Fundraiser Set for Canton Woman Diagnosed with Brain Tumors

Mini golf event designed to provide support for Richard family, kids.

A second fundraiser has been scheduled to assist the family of Nancy Richard, a mother of five who was recently diagnosed with two brain tumors.

In April of 2013 Richard, a breast cancer survivor, was diagnosed with two cancerous brain tumors. Her and husband John have five kids, four of whom are in Canton schools. An older sibling, Chelsea, has been helping take care of the younger ones each night. Others in the community have also helped with rides, meals and more.

Nancy Richard had undergone two surgeries and suffered physical challenges from a complication in the first. She is now undergoing therapy and radiation and has not been home since the latest ordeal began.

Community support has been strong and a recent fundraiser, Spin for Nancy, was an overwhelming success.

Family member Tracey Richard, with help of friend April Brodeur-Fitts, are organizing Mini Golf for Nancy at Glove Cove, inside Canton Indoor Golf Center on June 22. From noon to 4 p.m. that day, participants can get a round of mini golf and an ice cream cone for $10. There will also be balloons and some raffles.

The second fundraiser is intentionally revolves around kids. It will help Nancy's own, but also provide a chance for their friends to help.

"Nancy's whole life revolves around her family and she is continuing to fight every day just to get back home to them," Tracey Richard said. "Her kids have been through so much and this will provide them the opportunity to have a little bit of fun with their friends. Many of the people who bought tickets have bought them because they have a child who is in school with one of the Richard children."

Tickets for the event on June 22 are available (cash only) at LaSalle Market and Deli in Collinsville. There will also be some available at the door.

Tracey Richard said the event is also meant to be fun, for Nancy's kids and for local families.

"It is going to be a fun event for kids and the whole family," Tracey Richard said.
