110-Acre Development Featuring Stores, Restaurants And Housing Coming To Cheshire

The project by WS Development, which has been on-hold since 2007 because of the down economy, is back on again.

A Cheshire development that has been on hold for six years is going forward again, meaning a high-end designer outlet center, restaurants, a grocery store, condos and restaurants will soon be coming to Cheshire.

Recently, WS Development, of Chestnut Hill, Mass., announced they will be restarting a development at the intersection of Highland Avenue, Dickerman Road and I-691, according to The Record Journal. The development, which sits on 110 acres, will include retail shoots, a high-end designer outlet center, restaurants, hotels, offices, condos and possibly a spa, according to the Journal.

The permits for the project were originally approved in 2007, but it was put on hold as the economy tanked, according to The Record Journal. However, WS Development now feels the climate is right to restart the project, according to the Journal.

“The decision to build a destination outlet center is in large part due to the very strong retail interest in the project and the success of outlet centers today” said Mark Roberts, senior vice president of leasing at WS Development, in a press release. “With its convenient highway location and super regional access, the project is perfectly positioned within the state for outlet retail.”

WS Development is proposing some changes to the original project, so they will have to go back to the town to get new permits before construction can begin, according to The Record Journal. Construction is slated to begin on the project in 2014, with a projected opening date of the summer of 2015, according to a WS Development press release.
