Arata continued: “It’s clear to see that people are frustrated with the direction the state is headed and the policies that have gotten us here. Police officers have a hard enough job as it is and they shouldn’t have to second guess every decision they make, but that has been the effect of recent legislative changes. My focus will be on making sure people are held accountable for their actions, that police feel they can do their jobs without fear of losing their livelihoods and that we help people who have been the victims of crime.”

The Fraternal Order of Police is the nation's largest law enforcement organization, with over 325,000 members and over 2,100 lodges throughout the United States. It’s Connecticut chapter is based in Guilford. Founded in 1915, the F.O.P. represents professional, full time officers from all agencies of law enforcement, according to the organization's website. The organization is dedicated to improving working conditions, wages and benefits, while also monitoring legislation affecting law enforcement on the local, state and national levels.

Arata, 65, is dedicated to public service and has been appointed to several local boards and commissions. He currently serves as the vice chairman of the Public Utilities Commission in Meriden, 1 a role that requires exacting attention to detail to help manage the city’s critical services.

Lou believes in integrity, honesty and gratitude in all his dealings, personal freedoms for all, including parental rights, and commonsense fiscal policies aimed at helping Connecticut residents, not filling government surpluses.
