The search for Harold Smith has come to end after the 67-year-old was found safe at a farm in Cheshire on Saturday afternoon.
A man approached a worker at Sunny Acres Farm, located about half a mile south of Interstate 691, around 2:15 p.m. and told the farmer he had run away from home, according to police. The farmer, who recognized the man from media reports, called police, who identified the man as Harold Smith.
Cheshire police confirmed Smith’s identity and he was transported to the Hospital of Central Connecticut Bradley Campus as a precautionary measure, but was medically cleared later in the day, Southington Police Lt. Michael Baribault said.
“Mr. Smith advised officers that he left home and walked down the linear trail into Cheshire,” Baribault said. “He left the trail and walked down Route 10 until he reached Blacks Rd. Mr. Smith walked approximately one half of a mile on Blacks Rd. and entered a field on the Sunny Acre Farm.
“He found an unsecured abandoned vehicle and sought shelter inside for the last three days,” he said. “He approached the farm worker after seeing him working in the field.”
Smith had been missing since Wednesday morning, police said. The case is now considered closed.
