Obituary: Donna J. Serafin, 69, of Cheshire
Donna, lovingly known as caring and selfless, served 45 years as a registered nurse and was always dedicated to her family.
CHESHIRE, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Donna J. Serafin, 69, of Cheshire, passed away on Friday, October 8th in her home with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Waterbury on January 14, 1952, daughter of the late Dominic and Mary (Longo) Verno. She graduated from Wilby High School in 1969 and the University of Connecticut in 1974 with a B.S. in Nursing.
She was a Registered Nurse for 45 years with experience in critical care, cardiac rehabilitation, student health, geriatric care, and pre-surgical assessment before retiring in 2018 to begin her second career; babysitting her beloved granddaughter.
She was the most caring and selfless wife, mother, and grandmother, always putting her family before herself. She was well-liked, well-read, well-travelled, and was always planning her next trip, especially annual family vacations to Cape Cod.
She appreciated visiting museums and attending Broadway shows with her mom, sisters, and daughter. She loved great food and she loved making great food for family and friends even more. Watching tennis and Jeopardy won’t be the same without her.
Donna is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. John J. Serafin III; son John J. Serafin IV, his wife Haley (Myers), and their children Morgan and Johnny of Wallingford; daughter Lauren Serafin of West Hartford; sister Maryanne Rinaldi and her husband Mike of Wallingford; brother Mickey Verno and his wife Karen of Cheshire; sister Lori Sacco and her husband Jim of Weston, MA; and many beloved nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and cousins.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and doctors who treated her over the past two years, particularly Dr. Sope Olugbile of Hartford HealthCare and Dr. Emeline Aviki of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
In accordance with Donna’s wishes, all services will be held privately. Arrangements are under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Donna’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
