Obituary: John Ignatius Chicoski, 77, of Cheshire

John was a decorated US Army veteran, worked many years as a certified public account and was involved in many local organizations.

CHESHIRE, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) John Ignatius Chicoski, 77, died at Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford, CT, after a lengthy illness on November 15, 2021.

He had previously resided in Cheshire and in Waterbury.

John grew up in Beacon Falls, CT, graduated from Sacred Heart High School and went on to graduate from the University of Connecticut and the University of Hartford where he achieved a Masters Degree in Taxation.

John served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC and at Kadena Air Force Base on Okinawa. He was a Captain assigned to the Armed Forces Courier Service and traveled extensively throughout the Far East, including Vietnam.

John worked for a number of Public Accounting firms and eventually was the co-founder of a CPA firm in Waterbury: Chicoski, Skelly & Co., LLP. John was a Certified Public Account.

He was the senior partner in his firm until he retired in 2012.

He is a past President of the Sacred Heart High School Board of Directors.John is survived by his brother Thomas (Mary Jane) Chicoski of Wallingford, his nieces Michelle (Steve) Ahlcrona of Uncasville, CT and Ann Marie (David) Papoosha of East Haddam, CT, grandnieces Emily Ahlcrona and Hailey Papoosha and grandnephew Declan Papoosha.

The family wishes to express appreciation for the nursing staff of MHC Ramage 5 and the Masonicare Hospice Team for their professional, kind and thoughtful care throughout John’s hospitalization.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, the American Parkinson Disease Association or the charity of your own choosing.

John’s family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., on Monday, Nov. 22nd, from 9:30 to 11:30am.

A funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 11:30 am.

Interment in the State Veterans’ Cemetery in Middletown will be private.
