Unemployment Rate in Cheshire Lower than State Average

Cheshire weathers unemployment better than the state as a whole.

The latest state and national unemployment figure is 9.1 percent, based on July statistics. 

Cheshire's rate of unemployment, however, is significantly lower, coming in at 7.6 percent. 

The state Department of Labor shows Cheshire had 1,137 unemployed workers on the books out of a workforce of 14,866.

Within its Local Market Area, or LMA, a statistical grouping of 22 towns, Cheshire had fewer unemployed than Wallingford, Hamden, Meriden, North Haven and North Branford.

Within the New Haven LMA, there are six towns with lower unemployment rates. The data can be seen in the attached pdf.
